Go For It! // Beach Tote

Whether it be sky diving, traveling to Europe, starting a business, learning to play an instrument, or just trying something new, we all have said "I've always wanted to do that!" about something. Recently, I have gotten pretty sick of hearing myself say that. Instead, I wanted to start saying "I tried that and it was awesome!"

I've always been the type of person who enjoys a good challenge. When I get too comfortable with something, I tend to get a little antsy. I like to do lists. I especially like scratching things off of to do lists. (Strange, I know.) But I also love trying new things. A lot of times I need a good push, but once I'm trying something new and different, I truly enjoy myself! I'm not that great at everything I try, but I find satisfaction in knowing I at least gave it a shot. Today I really hope to encourage you to try the thing that you've always wanted to do, but have been putting off for a long time for any and every reason. What's the worst that could happen? To me, the absolute worst is never going for it.

For as long as I can remember, I've wanted to learn how to sew. I don't have massive dreams to sew as a career and be the world's greatest seamstress or anything, I just always wanted to learn how. I find it very interesting and also extremely helpful in understanding as a fit model. Finally, I put away all of my (many) excuses and intimidations, and took an intro to sewing class thanks to my amazing and talented friend Jake, an incredible designer, who gave me the details for a class at Mood Fabrics in midtown Manhattan.

It definitely was not easy to make time for the class. I had to get approval from my agency to have the time to do it, I had to buy all of the supplies because I owned absolutely nothing that I needed for the class, and I had to swallow my pride because I would be walking into the class with zero knowledge of how to even thread a sewing machine.  Long story short, I finished the 6-week class and made a tote bag! If you look at it closely, you'll see a lot of my mistakes but I am still pretty proud of it!

Since I am obsessed with the beach, I decided to make mine a very beach inspired tote in a heavy canvas-like fabric in ivory and shades of blue. I am actually in love with the fabric! I finally got to take it to the beach this past weekend with Zach in the Rockaways and truly loved it!

What have you always wanted to do? Why not go for it! It's not too late as long as you're still breathing... And I'm pretty sure you are. ;)
