Stop the Mean Girl

---The Why Behind 'Friendspiration Friday'---

Everybody remembers the mean girl in high school. The girl that made you feel insecure, inadequate, and uncool. Sadly enough, I feel like the 'mean girl mentality' stays with a lot of females for far too long. Either you feel the need to belittle others to feel good about yourself, or you constantly feel like the underdog when around other successful woman, even when their intentions aren't undermining.

I am all about girls being on the same team. My whole purpose in starting 'Friendspiration Friday' blog posts each week is to highlight and encourage the gifts and talents of the amazing women around me. Sometimes there is easily an underlying sense of competition among women. ((I know this to be true because I have been guilty of feeling this way myself!)) It's easy to look at another girl who seems to 'have it all together' or who is successful, and feel insecure in your own skin. However, I think that is absolutely useless and backwards thinking. Why not see the success of those around you as inspirational and encouraging to know that you too can accomplish the dreams and desires that are deep inside your heart?! This new mindset must start somewhere, and I truly believe that it can start by getting in the habit of complimenting and empowering the women in your world.

Call me crazy, but I am one of those people who actually believe that when I refresh others, I will also be refreshed (Proverbs 11:25). I also believe that bringing out the good in others and being excited for someone else's success makes me much happier in general! If I begin to compare myself to someone else— their looks, their success, and their talents— of course I will feel insecure. But to be honest, when I get in the habit of noticing the good in others and encouraging them, I find myself doing a lot less comparing and actually start to become an obnoxious cheerleader for them instead. ;)

Today, I really want to challenge you to stop looking at the bad in others; see the good in them! Stop scrolling through Instagram at other beautiful women and feeling down about yourself; start feeling inspired, ambitious, and motivated! Take every opportunity to see the positive. Become the person who causes other people to wonder where you get your joy from, even though it could actually be coming from them!

((So all of that to say, this week's 'Friendspiration Friday' post is to explain the why behind the 'Friendspiration Friday' posts. <3 ))
